Bosnia and Herzegovina judicial updates: human trafficking and fatal accident rulings
Several significant legal developments have occurred in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In Tuzla, the Cantonal Court issued a non-final first-instance verdict sentencing Nedim Avdić to one year in prison. Avdić pleaded guilty to human trafficking, admitting to paying for the sexual services of two minors between mid-2024 and July 2025. The broader case involves 12 defendants, including seven police officers from the Tuzla Canton Ministry of Internal Affairs.
In Doboj, the District Court sentenced Nebojša Đ. to two years in prison and a two-year driving ban following a fatal traffic accident in October 2024. The court found that the defendant, driving a BMW, crossed into the left lane and collided head-on with a vehicle driven by Azur Hiseni, a non-commissioned officer in the Armed Forces of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who died at the scene.
Additionally, in Banja Luka, high security measures were implemented at the Supreme Court of Republika Srpska during third-instance appeals in the murder case of Slatko Krunić and his bodyguard, Žarko Pavlović. The defense for Benedik Đukanović and Emilije Balde, who were previously sentenced to 40 and 25 years respectively, presented their appeals under heavy police presence.
