Legal proceedings continue in fraud case in Morocco and shooting trial in Vermont

In Morocco, the appellate criminal court in Fes has postponed the trial of a lawyer and a notary involved in a major fraud case. The defendants face charges including the forgery of contracts and the manipulation of properties built on state-owned land. The court has ordered the re-summoning of the lawyer and denied temporary release to Hicham Chakchak. Previously, the primary criminal chamber sentenced both individuals to two years in prison and a fine of 100,000 dirhams.

In the United States, Jason Eaton is on trial in Vermont for the 2023 shooting of three Palestinian college students. Eaton, who has pleaded not guilty but admits to being the shooter, is using an insanity defense. He alleges that the CIA and Mossad issued orders to him via FM radio to protect his neighbors. If convicted of attempted murder, Eaton faces up to life in prison; if found not guilty by reason of insanity, he may face mandatory mental health treatment.
