Pity Álvarez trial suspended after change of legal counsel
The trial of musician Cristian Gabriel “Pity” Álvarez for the 2018 homicide of Cristian Maximiliano Díaz has been suspended following a sudden change in his legal representation. Álvarez, who was previously represented by public defenders, has appointed private attorneys Javier Ignacio Baños and Sebastián Queijeiro.
The new defense team requested a postponement to allow sufficient time to review the case file, examine evidence, and design an effective legal strategy. They also requested full access to the judicial computer system to study testimonies and expert reports. The defense argued that a suspension is necessary to ensure a real and effective exercise of the right to defense rather than a merely formal one.
The Tribunal Oral en lo Criminal y Correccional N° 29 of the Federal Capital has accepted the request and rescheduled the continuation of the trial for Wednesday, August 26.
