Legal proceedings continue in two separate cases of maternal child homicide
In Massachusetts, Janette MacAusland, 49, has been indicted by a Norfolk County grand jury on two counts of first-degree murder. Prosecutors allege she strangled her children, Ella, 6, and Kai, 7, in Wellesley in April. Toxicology reports from the county medical examiner revealed the children died from mechanical asphyxia and the combined effects of substances including zolpidem, acetaminophen, ibuprofen, and lorazepam. MacAusland allegedly fled to Vermont following the incident, where she reportedly confessed to the killings.
In Bristol, England, Yasmeen Ali, 44, pleaded guilty to manslaughter on the grounds of diminished responsibility for the 2024 deaths of her three children: Fares, 7; Joury, 3; and Mohammed, 9 months. Ali, a former nurse, admitted to killing the children while suffering from acute psychosis. A judge sentenced her to stay indefinitely at a secure psychiatric hospital, noting the acts were almost entirely attributable to mental disorder. The incident occurred six days after her release from a psychiatric hospital.
