Legal proceedings involve child abuse material cases in UK and Ireland

Two separate legal proceedings involving the possession of child abuse material have taken place in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

In the UK, James Sharratt, a 70-year-old from St Mabyn, appeared before Bodmin Magistrates' Court. He pleaded guilty to possessing indecent images of children and extreme pornographic images involving animals. He was sentenced to 34 weeks in prison, suspended for 12 months, and received 10 days of rehabilitation. Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders' register for 10 years and issued a sexual harm prevention order restricting internet access for a decade.

In Ireland, 37-year-old Edward Sweeney was remanded on bail at Dún Laoghaire District Court. Sweeney faces eight charges under the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998. The allegations include the possession of tens of thousands of child pornography images and videos across various electronic devices, including a MacBook Pro, USB drives, and a smartphone. He is also accused of producing and distributing such material in the Dublin area between 2012 and 2018.
