Two separate legal proceedings involving Afghan nationals have concluded with notable courtroom developments in Austria and Germany.

In an Austrian court, a 38-year-old man faced allegations of domestic violence, including physical assault and death threats against his wife. During the trial, the defendant engaged in a heated dispute with an interpreter, contesting the translation of the word ‘violence counseling’ versus ‘marriage counseling.’ Because the victim refused to testify against her husband, the judge acquitted him of the continuous violence charges. However, based on surveillance footage showing the defendant attempting to prevent his wife from reaching a police station, the incident was resolved through a diversionary measure requiring an apology and a fine of 250 euros.

In a German court, a 20-year-old man stood trial for dangerous bodily harm, threats, and attempted coercion following an incident at Königsplatz. Police footage showed the defendant attempting to forcibly pour vodka into a victim's mouth and threatening him with a glass bottle. The victim provided contradictory testimony, initially claiming he did not know the defendant and expressing fear regarding potential Taliban connections to individuals involved in an alleged extortion attempt. The defendant admitted to being the individual in the footage but claimed he had done nothing wrong, attributing his actions to excessive alcohol consumption.
