Legal proceedings regarding Villena Treasure theft are provisionally dismissed

A court in Villena has issued a provisional dismissal of preliminary proceedings against the mayor of Villena, Fulgencio Cerdán, following the theft of the Villena Treasure. The collection, one of Europe’s largest Bronze Age gold assemblages, was targeted in a robbery on August 27.

The lawsuit, filed by the Association for the Defense of the Rule of Law and the Fight against Corruption (ADED), alleged negligence and a lack of adequate protection at the museum facilities. The complaint also named the museum director, Laura Hernández, and other municipal officials for potential crimes of damage through imprudence.

While the court's resolution was described as well-founded, the plaintiffs' legal representatives have announced intentions to appeal the decision before the Provincial Court of Alicante to ensure the investigation continues.
