In Queensland, Australia, a teacher has lost an appeal against his demotion and forced transfer following findings of inappropriate sexual comments made to students. The Queensland Industrial Relations Commission ruled on the case involving Scott Alan Barnard, who had been with the education department since 2005. The commission found that Barnard made various comments to Year 11 and 12 students between 2023 and 2024, including remarks regarding sexual positions and prostitution. While Barnard denied several of the allegations, an internal investigation following a sexual harassment complaint in March 2024 led to the disciplinary action.

In Manitoba, Canada, a judge has overturned a decision by the Education Minister to cancel the teaching certificate of Robert Hrabluk. Hrabluk, a veteran educator with 23 years of experience, faced investigation after private social media messages with a 13-year-old student were discovered. Justice Elissa Neville of the Court of King's Bench ruled that Education Minister Tracy Schmidt failed to provide sufficient justification for the severity of the penalty and noted inconsistencies in the decision-making process, including an initial erroneous notice of a one-year suspension sent just before the cancellation notice.
