Legal rulings impact municipal leadership in São Luís and Riozinho

In Maranhão, a decision by Desembargador Ricardo Duailibe, president of the Court of Justice of Maranhão, has overturned a previous ruling that suspended the election for the Board of Directors of the São Luís Municipal Chamber for the 2027/28 biennium. Councilman Beto Castro, a candidate for president who currently holds 21 of the 31 votes, stated that the decision represents justice and noted that his slate is nearly finalized. The internal election is scheduled for Thursday, February 1, at 9:00 AM.

In Riozinho, Mayor Airton Trevizani da Rosa announced that the judiciary has dismissed corruption charges against him. The decision comes five years after a 2021 police operation conducted by the State Department of Criminal Investigations (Deic) at his residence. The mayor expressed relief regarding the ruling, noting the significant impact the investigation had on his family and reputation, and stated he would seek legal means for any necessary accountability or reparation.
