Legal rulings involve parole denials, social media threats, and prison escapes
In Romania, Nicolae Ploaie, who was sentenced to 12 years for an attempted murder in 2015 involving an attack with a plank, has had his request for conditional release rejected by the Medgidia Court. His appeal will be heard by the Constanța Tribunal in August 2026.
Additionally, a 69-year-old man from Mureș, Iulian Canceu, received a definitive sentence of eight months of suspended prison for judicial ultraism. The conviction follows Facebook threats made against a Târgu Mureș prosecutor. The court also banned him from using social media for one year and ordered him to pay 2,000 lei in moral damages.
In Moldova, a 52-year-old inmate at Prison No. 9 – Pruncul was sentenced to an additional year of detention after escaping from the facility in April 2025. The inmate had been serving a sentence for theft and was caught four hours after leaving the premises via a taxi.
