Panama man sentenced to 30 years for femicide in Coclé

Olivares Cortez has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the femicide of his former partner, Selinda Córdoba, in Pocrí, Aguadulce, Coclé province. The sentencing follows a plea agreement validated by the Tribunal de Garantías.

The incident occurred on the morning of Sunday, October 12, 2025. The 27-year-old defendant attacked the 21-year-old victim with a knife in a local park after meeting her to talk. Córdoba died while being transported to the Hospital Rafael Estévez.

In addition to the 30-year prison term, the court imposed a secondary penalty prohibiting the defendant from carrying knives or firearms for 10 years following the completion of his primary sentence. Investigations revealed that the victim had previously reported feeling threatened by the defendant on social media after their relationship ended.
