Argentina issues sentences in Rosario crash and sexual abuse cases
In Argentina, judicial authorities have issued significant rulings in two separate criminal cases.
In Rosario, Agustín López Gagliasso was sentenced to 16 years in prison for the deaths of Tania Gandolfi and her daughter, Agustina García. The court ruled the incident was homicide with 'dolo eventual' (eventual intent), after Gagliasso drove a Peugeot 206 at over 120 km/h while pursuing a motorcyclist, eventually losing control and striking the victims on a pedestrian walkway. The sentence includes a 10-year disqualification from driving.
Separately, the Criminal Cassation Court of Buenos Aires confirmed the conviction of Claudio Contardi for aggravated sexual abuse and gender violence against his former partner, Julieta Prandi. While the court upheld the conviction and the detention, it slightly reduced the original sentence from 19 years to 18 years and six months after removing one specific aggravating factor. The judges noted that Prandi’s testimony was coherent and supported by medical and familial evidence, proving a sustained context of psychological, physical, and sexual violence.
