Legal rulings issued in firearms cases in the UK and Barbados
In separate legal proceedings, individuals in the United Kingdom and Barbados have faced consequences for firearms offences.
At Bristol Crown Court, 25-year-old William Scammell was found guilty of possessing a firearm with intent to endanger life following a shooting in Speedwell. The incident occurred on April 1, when Scammell used a motorized e-bike to pursue a vehicle. During the trial, it was revealed that Scammell admitted his intention to fire a loaded shotgun into the car, which resulted in a gunshot wound to 24-year-old Ryan Cridland. Scammell, who was previously acquitted of attempted murder, is scheduled to be sentenced on January 19.
In Barbados, Jackson Bart Randall, a 47-year-old American from Arizona, was ordered by the High Court to pay $22,000 in fines after being caught with an unlicensed .380 automatic Colt pistol and ammunition. The items were discovered in his luggage by security officers at Grantley Adams International Airport during a flight destined for Miami. Randall pleaded guilty, and the judge ordered the immediate payment of $15,000 for the firearm and $7,000 for the ammunition to avoid a four-year prison sentence.
