Legal rulings settle contract disputes for Petrachi and Montella
The Italian Court of Cassation has issued a final ruling regarding the dismissal of Gianluca Petrachi, the current Sporting Director of Torino FC, by his former club, AS Roma. The court confirmed the legitimacy of the dismissal for cause in July 2020, following a legal battle lasting over six years. The dismissal was triggered by a text message Petrachi sent to then-president James Pallotta, in which he referred to the majority shareholder as a ‘small man’ and criticized the club's economic management. The court ruled these comments were ‘extremely serious insults’ that irreparably damaged the bond of trust between employer and employee, rejecting Petrachi's claims for compensation.
In separate football news, Vincenzo Montella has reached a financial settlement with the Turkish Football Federation following his departure as head coach. To resolve his contract, which was originally set to run until 2028, Montella will receive a severance package of approximately 915,000 euros, equivalent to five monthly salary payments. As part of the agreement to settle his professional affairs in Turkey, Montella also waived a 330,000 euro credit he was owed by his former club, Adana Demirspor.
