Legambiente launches 34th ‘Puliamo il Mondo’ environmental cleanup campaign

The 34th edition of ‘Puliamo il Mondo’, the Italian version of the international ‘Clean up the World’ campaign, is underway across Italy. Organized by Legambiente, the initiative involves volunteers, schools, and local administrations cleaning streets, parks, beaches, and rivers.

In Tuscany, nearly 100 initiatives are scheduled, with central dates falling on September 18, 19, and 20. This year’s campaign places a specific focus on the environmental impact of cigarette butts, which are identified as a widespread form of pollution in urban parks and coastal areas. Monitoring in several Tuscan parks has already cataloged thousands of pieces of waste.

Other regional activities include a cleanup in Cormano at Parco dell’Acqua and a significant effort in the Monti Sicani region. In the latter, volunteers collected over 2,500 kilograms of glass bottles and plastic waste from areas previously affected by fires.
