Legambiente Giretto d’Italia results show rising sustainable mobility
The XVI edition of Legambiente’s Giretto d’Italia, an initiative monitoring sustainable commuting for work and school, has concluded. Padova ranked first nationally with 8,168 recorded trips using active or non-polluting transport, followed by Piacenza and Torino. Pescara secured fourth place with 3,823 recorded passages.
Nationally, nearly 60,000 trips were recorded across 120 monitoring points. Legambiente noted that the growth in sustainable mobility is linked to investments in road safety, infrastructure, and alternative transport services. However, the association criticized current government responses to rising fuel costs—such as temporary pump discounts and delays in diesel restrictions—as counterproductive measures that prolong dependence on private vehicles.
During the second Mobility Forum in Rome, Legambiente presented five proposals for the 2027 budget to combat transport poverty and decarbonize transport. These include refinancing public transport with income-based tariffs, social leasing for zero-emission vehicles, expanding charging networks, increasing cycling funds, and promoting smart working to reduce mobility demand.
