Legambiente launches Italy's largest southern cycling network in Monti Dauni

The environmental association Legambiente has established the new body "Circolo Monti Dauni Legambiente" to protect the Monti Dauni area, which spans over 1,900 km² and contains about 40 million trees across oak, beech and Mediterranean pine forests. The association’s leadership includes President Giancarlo Casoli, Vice‑President Luigi De Seneen and Secretary Francesco Velluto.

Its first project is a "ciclocammino" linking the 29 municipalities of the Sub‑Appennine Dauna region. The route will repurpose historic tracks, mule paths, religious trails and, where useful, service roads of wind‑farm installations, creating a low‑impact, inter‑communal cycling and walking network that could become the longest in southern Italy. The initiative aims to preserve biodiversity, promote sustainable tourism and encourage local community involvement. Membership is open to citizens, professionals and volunteers through a simple phone contact.
