Leganés councilor defends municipal tree management

Violeta Bonet, the Environment Councilor for Leganés, has defended the municipality's management of urban trees following criticism regarding recent pruning and felling operations. Bonet stated that no trees are removed without technical assessment, noting that the city possesses a significant number of ancient trees, many over 50 years old, which complicates maintenance requirements.

Addressing concerns over seasonal pruning and pest control, specifically regarding elm trees affected by the gall wasp, Bonet explained that interventions are conducted based on technical necessity. She also noted that the municipal government has worked to increase equipment, such as pruning baskets, to better serve various neighborhoods and aims to increase the city's tree mass through new plantings.
