Legia Warsaw announces reduced budget and cost‑cutting plan for 2024‑25 season

Legia Warsaw is preparing for the 2024‑25 Ekstraklasa season with a tighter financial strategy after a disappointing 2023‑24 campaign that saw the club fight back from the relegation zone to finish sixth. Club president Marcin Herra told WP Sportowe Fakty that the previous season’s budget was just over 200 million zł and that the new budget will be set at roughly 170‑175 million zł, described as “normal” because the team will not be participating in cup competitions.

Herra rejected claims that the club is near bankruptcy, replying “nie” when asked directly. He highlighted that match‑day revenue reached 45 million zł and that the stadium can generate additional income through events such as concerts and examinations, potentially raising future budgets to 250‑300 million zł. The club aims to end a five‑year title drought, with the season opening on 24 July against Pogoń Szczecin.

The shift reflects a move away from previous high‑salary spending – the club had previously exceeded 100 million zł in wages – toward cost control and broader revenue generation.
