Legia Warszawa and Wisła Kraków clash over stadium access and fan safety

Tensions have escalated in the Polish Ekstraklasa following a match between Legia Warszawa and Wisła Kraków. The conflict began when Legia closed the away sector, citing necessary stadium renovations. This decision prevented Wisła fans from attending the match, leading to a 250,000 PLN fine per match imposed by the PZPN Licensing Commission, which ruled that Legia acted arbitrarily.

Following the exclusion of official away fans, reports emerged of security incidents. Wisła Kraków President Jarosław Królewski reported that a family among the Legia supporters was targeted and beaten after a goal. Legia Warszawa confirmed two incidents occurred during the match involving over 26,000 spectators and stated they are investigating to take disciplinary action.

In response to the ongoing issues with fan accessibility, Wisła Kraków has written to all Ekstraklasa clubs, offering assistance with stadium renovations to ensure guest sectors remain functional. Meanwhile, former player Jakub Błaszczykowski and Wisła coach Mariusz Jop criticized Legia’s decision, suggesting the renovation excuse was a provocation intended to weaken the opponent by removing their supporters.
