A Legionella outbreak in the Linz area of Austria has resulted in 32 confirmed cases and three deaths. Five individuals remain hospitalized, with one patient currently in intensive care.

Health authorities, including the Austrian Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES), have collected approximately 200 water samples from various locations, including households, workplaces, and technical facilities. A cooling system belonging to a commercial business in the Linz-Leonding area tested positive for Legionella pneumophila. This system has been shut down and disinfected.

While a separate cooling system in an industrial area east of the A7 motorway also tested positive for Legionella, microbiological and epidemiological analyses indicate no current link between that facility and the ongoing outbreak in Linz.
