Legislative bodies in Chile and Mexico are implementing procedural changes to manage internal political shifts and vacancies.

In Chile, the Senate leadership, led by President Paulina Núñez and Vice President Iván Moreira, is working to modify internal regulations. This move aims to prepare for the potential loss of parliamentary immunity (desafuero) for several legislators currently under investigation. The Senate is specifically analyzing how the removal of senators, such as Miguel Ángel Calisto, could alter political majorities. Currently, the ruling coalition holds 23 of the 50 seats, meaning the loss of even one member could impact the 26 votes required for an absolute majority.

In Mexico, the Senate is utilizing secretariats to coordinate work in 11 ordinary commissions that currently lack presiding officers. This vacancy is largely due to internal political processes within the Morena party, as legislators await party definitions regarding gubernatorial candidacies in 12 states. Ignacio Mier, president of the Political Coordination Board, indicated that the redistribution of these presidencies is expected to be regularized by the end of September.
