Legislative bodies in Ecuador and Dominican Republic advance new agendas

In Ecuador, Assembly President Mishel Mancheno has introduced a new legislative agenda consisting of 34 projects. This plan differs from the 50-project agenda previously proposed by former president Niels Olsen, who resigned to run in sectional elections. Mancheno’s agenda focuses on three main pillars: security and the fight against corruption, human development and institutional modernization, and sustainable economic growth with legal security for investment. Current legislative work includes reforms to the Tax Code and the Monetary Code.

In the Dominican Republic, legislators are addressing several pending reforms during the second ordinary legislature. Key initiatives under discussion include the Water Law, Police Reform, Labor Code reform, and modifications to the Social Security System. While some lawmakers express optimism regarding the political will to resolve these long-standing issues, others, such as Senator Omar Fernández, have cautioned that reforms like the Police Reform must be debated with prudence to ensure they meet actual national needs.
