U.S. approves $10 million loan for Honduran small businesses
The U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) has approved a $10 million loan for MiCrédito, a primarily U.S.-owned financial institution in Honduras. The funding is designed to expand access to financing for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) within the country.
At least 50% of the loan proceeds will be dedicated to supporting trade between the United States and Honduras by financing the purchase of American goods and services and strengthening regional supply chains. The initiative aims to promote financial inclusion and stimulate formal job creation in both urban and rural areas.
In a separate but related economic development context, the Honduran economic cabinet is meeting in Washington to discuss the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) process and prepare for the sixth review of their program with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
