Legislative candidates address immigrant communities in Federal Way
Candidates for the 30th legislative district participated in a forum in Federal Way on Tuesday, Oct. 20, to address concerns from local immigrant, refugee, and asylum-seeking communities. The event was organized by Mujer al Volante and United in Purpose, groups dedicated to serving low-income women and youth.
Four of the six candidates attended the private forum. Present were incumbent Democratic Senator Claire Wilson, incumbent Democratic Representative Jamila Taylor, incumbent Democratic Representative Kristina Reeves, and Independent challenger Paul McDaniel. Republican challengers Michael Rutland and Tiffany Bowyer were absent due to reported health reasons.
Attendees used the forum to share personal stories and ask candidates for specific actions regarding protection from ICE, caregiver advocacy, drowning prevention, funding inequities, and youth mental health support.
