Legislative candidates discuss safety and homelessness at chamber showcase

Twelve legislative candidates for the 5th, 33rd, and 47th districts participated in a joint candidate showcase hosted by the Kent and Covington chambers of commerce. Held at Green River College’s Kent campus, the event allowed candidates to present their priorities regarding five main policy categories.

Key topics of discussion included public safety, homelessness, state spending, affordability, and government accountability. Candidates offered varying approaches, with some advocating for expanded behavioral health services and closer coordination between law enforcement and social services, while others emphasized stronger enforcement and reduced regulations. Other issues addressed included fentanyl, water supplies, and disaster preparedness.
