Legislative commissions approve judicial reforms in Paraguay and El Salvador

In Paraguay, the Budget Commission of the Chamber of Deputies issued a favorable report regarding a bill to create a Public Defender's Office in Mariano Roque Alonso. The initiative aims to optimize the territorial distribution of public defense services in the Central Department, reducing demand concentration in other regional offices and strengthening judicial protection for low-income populations.

In El Salvador, the National Security and Justice Commission issued a favorable report on a proposal to dissolve the Coordinating Commission of the Justice Sector and the Technical Executive Unit (UTE) of the Justice Sector. The initiative, supported by the Ministry of Public Security and Justice, seeks to prevent the duplication of functions and the dispersion of public resources. As part of this restructuring, the Program for the Protection of Victims and Witnesses, currently managed by the UTE, would be transferred to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security to be updated and modernized.
