Legislative efforts target road safety in Argentina and transport blockades in Colombia
In Argentina, councilors from the UCR + Diálogo bloc in Trenque Lauquen have submitted a project to the Honorable Concejo Deliberante requesting urgent intervention from the Dirección Nacional de Vialidad. The proposal aims to improve road safety at the intersection of National Route 5 and Regimiento 3 de Caballería, citing risks caused by narrow access points, poor visibility due to a culvert, and inadequate signage.
The initiative requests that the national agency require Corredor Vial 5 S. A. U. to implement corrective works, including widening the roadway and improving shoulders. The project also calls for a technical review of all secondary access points to Route 5 within the district.
In Colombia, Bogotá councilor Juan David Quintero discussed Decree 003, which prohibits permanent and total blockades of transport systems like Transmilenio. Quintero noted that while the decree complements his local project, his legislative goal is to formally recognize passenger transport as an essential service to protect fundamental rights, similar to legal precedents set regarding airline strikes.
