Legislative initiatives target harassment in Peru and Mexico

In Peru, the Red de Mujeres Autoridades de Ayacucho is calling for the regulation of Law No. 31155 to effectively combat political harassment against women in public office. Representative Gloria Falconí noted that while the law exists, the lack of specific regulations makes it difficult to apply sanctions. The Defensoría del Pueblo has also emphasized the need to clarify procedures and competencies for handling such cases.

In Mexico, a legislative initiative proposed by María Teresa Ealy Díaz seeks to establish a 60-business-day limit for investigating sexual harassment and hostility in workplaces. The proposal aims to prevent investigations from lasting up to 18 months. It suggests that workplaces with more than 10 employees implement permanent internal committees to manage complaints, coordinate investigations, and recommend protection measures, aligning with International Labour Organization Convention 190.
