Legislative proposals regarding education funding and pension fund management face scrutiny

In Tierra del Fuego, Argentina, legislator Federico Sciurano has proposed an alternative financing plan for the provincial education system. His proposal seeks to exclude taxes on the Banco de Tierra del Fuego (BTF) and gas distribution from the education funding project. Sciurano argued that the BTF serves a vital public function as a driver of the local economy and a tool for state obligations, noting that its profits benefit the local society.

In Chile, Deputy Sofía González has rejected a government proposal within a capital systems reform project that would allow Pension Fund Administrators (AFPs) to manage savings intended for first-time homebuyers. González expressed concern that the measure expands the business scope of AFPs following significant losses in pension funds. She criticized the inclusion of tax breaks on financial gains and the ability to use pension assets as collateral for financing, characterizing the move as a risk to workers' savings.
