Legislative proposals target business costs in Romania and Hungary
In Romania, a new draft law proposes making legal representation mandatory for various administrative and legal processes. This would include the drafting of employment contracts, land lease agreements, certain copyright contracts, company registrations, and modifications. Business organizations have expressed concern over the potential financial impact. According to Romanian Business Leaders (RBL), additional costs could exceed 100 million euros annually, potentially reaching 800 million euros if the mandate extends to all employment contract modifications.
In Hungary, the government has introduced a proposal to reduce administrative burdens on businesses by eliminating the mandatory annual chamber contribution. Starting January 1, 2027, companies would no longer be required to pay the 5,000 HUF annual fee to economic chambers. The measure aims to stimulate the economy by removing a payment for which many businesses receive little tangible service. While the mandatory contribution would end, the requirement for chamber registration would remain.
