Legislative reforms target criminal law in Peru and rural vandalism in Argentina

In Peru, the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights has established a temporary sectoral working group to conduct a comprehensive review of current criminal legislation. The group aims to formulate legislative proposals to strengthen the legal framework and optimize the prevention, investigation, prosecution, and punishment of crimes.

The working group will be chaired by the Vice Minister of Justice and include representatives from the National Penitentiary Council and the General Directorate of Criminological Affairs. Members will work on an ad honorem basis to consolidate academic and civil society input and present monthly progress reports to the Minister.

In Argentina, leaders from the Confederaciones Rurales Argentinas (CRA) have presented a bill to the National Congress to toughen penalties for rural vandalism. The proposal seeks to amend the Penal Code by creating a specific figure for 'Rural Vandalism,' which would impose prison sentences of two to five years for those who destroy or damage grain, silos, or other agricultural assets.
