Legislative reforms target sexual harassment and workplace violence

In Arica, Chile, the Labor Safety Institute (ISL) has launched training and awareness activities regarding the 'Ley Karin' (Law No. 21,643). This legislation aims to strengthen the prevention, investigation, and sanctioning of workplace harassment, sexual harassment, and violence. The initiative focuses on educating both employers and workers to foster respectful and dignified work environments.

Separately, technical and legal advisory departments of the Legislative Assembly have recommended reforms to the Law against Sexual Harassment in Employment and Teaching (Law 7,476). The proposal seeks to allow the Plenary to impose ethical sanctions on former deputies facing complaints filed during their time in office. This recommendation follows a case where a file was archived after a legislative term ended, despite prior recommendations for public ethical admonishment.
