Legislative shifts in Chile and Argentina address road safety and AI liability
In Chile, a legislative proposal has entered Congress to establish the crimes of road homicide and serious road injury. Supported by six civil society organizations, including ONG No Chat, the bill seeks to impose prison sentences of up to 10 years for serious traffic violations that result in death. Notably, the initiative includes the use and manipulation of mobile phones while driving as a factor that can trigger these new criminal charges.
In Argentina, more than thirty civil organizations have petitioned Senator Patricia Bullrich to remove provisions regarding decentralized autonomous organizations (DAOs) from a proposed reform of the General Law of Companies. Critics, including the Unión Industrial Argentina and various legal experts, argue that allowing companies to be managed by artificial intelligence without effective human control makes it impossible to assign civil or criminal liability for damages or failures.
