Mexico's Federal Judiciary proposes administrative and budgetary reforms

In Mexico, the Federal Judiciary (PJF) has presented a reform proposal to the Executive aimed at redistributing administrative and budgetary powers. The proposal, delivered to Legal Counsel Luisa María Alcalde, seeks to grant greater financial autonomy to the Supreme Court, the Electoral Tribunal, and the Judicial Discipline Tribunal, allowing them to act as independent spending units. This move aims to increase administrative independence and agility, moving away from the centralized model established by recent reforms.

Related judicial developments include a project to synchronize the election of judges and magistrates with a mandate revocation process in 2028. Additionally, the Judicial Discipline Tribunal has summoned retired judge Martha Eugenia Magaña López to testify regarding a provisional suspension she granted against the judicial reform.

In other regional news, Peru's Chamber of Deputies has approved a proposal to delegate legislative powers to the Executive for 90 days to address citizen security and the El Niño phenomenon. Meanwhile, in Costa Rica, the Legislative Assembly approved the first debate for a project to close the Ministry of Governance and Police, redistributing its functions to other executive branches by May 2027.
