Legislative updates in Ecuador and Chile regarding investigations and housing subsidies

In Ecuador, the Fiscalization Commission has requested an extension to complete its investigation into the Sucre-Foglocons and Progen cases. The commission cited a heavy workload, including the impeachment process of former Energy Minister Inés Manzano, as the reason for the delay. The National Assembly is scheduled to deliberate on this request during its session on August 12, 2026.

In Chile, the Senate's Finance Commission unanimously approved a project to extend mortgage rate subsidies and the State Guarantee Fund (Fogaes). The initiative aims to revitalize the real estate market by increasing the number of available slots to 80,000, raising the maximum property value eligible for the benefit to 6,000 UF, and extending the program's validity until May 31, 2028. The measure is intended to lower down payment requirements and reduce monthly mortgage installments.
