Legislative Yuan announces new committee chairpersons

The Legislative Yuan has finalized the list of chairpersons for its eight major standing committees. In a move reflecting continued cooperation between the Kuomintang (KMT) and the Taiwan People's Party (TPP), the KMT decided to yield the chairmanship of the Judicial and Legislative Committee to TPP legislator Chen Chao-tzu.

KMT legislator Weng Hsiao-ling, who previously held the position, addressed rumors that her departure was due to controversies affecting election prospects. Weng stated that stepping down felt like a “relief” and noted that she had served as chairperson for two consecutive sessions. She emphasized that her focus remains on her duties as a legislator and budget oversight.

Chen Chao-tzu, the new chairperson for the Judicial and Legislative Committee, noted that while she had originally hoped to lead the Health, Environment, and Working Committee, the consensus between the two parties resulted in her current assignment. She acknowledged the challenges of being from a smaller party but expressed commitment to advancing important legislation.
