Legislator demands maximum penalties for NTT school fund corruption

I Wayan Sudirta, a member of Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), has called on law enforcement agencies, including the KPK, Attorney General's Office, and Police, to expedite investigations into alleged corruption regarding school revitalization programs in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

Reports indicate that contractors allegedly offered kickbacks to school principals and education department officials. Specifically, a principal claimed that contractors offered a 7 percent allocation for the principal, 3 percent for education department officials, and a 10 percent pure profit for the contractor.

Sudirta emphasized that the perpetrators should face maximum legal penalties, citing that corruption is an “extraordinary crime,” particularly as it occurs during economic hardship, affects the vital education sector, and takes place in a region currently impacted by natural disasters. He urged for a transparent process that targets the primary organizers without selective enforcement.
