Legislators in Argentina and Mexico propose VAT exemptions

In Argentina, provincial deputy Silvina Vaccarezza has introduced a bill in the Buenos Aires Legislature to exempt mandatory electronic cattle identification tags from Value Added Tax (VAT). The proposal seeks to align the tax treatment of these devices with that of Foot-and-Mouth disease vaccines. The initiative aims to prevent new economic burdens on livestock producers as the mandatory electronic identification system for bovine, bubaline, and cervid livestock takes effect on January 1, 2026.

In Mexico, Deputy Francisco Sánchez Villegas of the Movimiento Ciudadano party has proposed eliminating VAT on bank commissions. The initiative seeks to reform the VAT Law to exempt fees related to account management, annual card fees, ATM withdrawals, and bank transfers. Sánchez Villegas argued that the current system imposes a double economic burden on families, noting that taxes on service fees reduce the disposable income available for household needs.
