Legislators propose new child welfare and health initiatives
In separate legislative efforts, lawmakers have introduced proposals aimed at improving child development and health services.
In Uruguay, Deputy Romina Mota of the Unión Cívica Radical has presented a bill to establish the ‘Programa de Crianza Cuidada y Corresponsabilidad Parental’. The program is designed to support families during a child's first five years of life. It focuses on providing practical tools for child education and care, promoting parental co-responsibility to ensure an equitable distribution of caregiving duties, and offering workshops to help adults understand developmental needs and emotional well-being.
In Sinaloa, Mexico, Deputy Moncerrat López López of the Partido del Trabajo has proposed a reform to the State Health Law. The initiative seeks to include neonatal neurological and neuromotor screening as part of maternal and child healthcare services. The proposal, which has received its first reading in the State Congress, aims to expand the current scope of integral growth and development monitoring for children.
