LEGO Ideas project recreates Salvador Dalí painting in 3D
A designer known as BrickRelativity has created a three-dimensional LEGO Ideas diorama based on Salvador Dalí’s 1931 surrealist painting, ‘The Persistence of Memory’. The build translates the two-dimensional artwork into a sculptural scene, featuring the iconic melting clocks, a dead tree, an ant-covered watch, and the central sleeping figure.
The diorama utilizes various construction techniques to mimic the fluid shapes of the original work, including pearl-silver drips on a tree-mounted watch and bent tile seams on a gold watch face. The project includes a black display base and a gallery plaque. As a LEGO Ideas submission, the project currently has 1,849 supporters and requires 10,000 votes to enter official review for potential commercial production.
This project follows previous LEGO Art collaborations with museums, such as the MoMA partnership for a Van Gogh ‘Starry Night’ set. Such crowdsourced platforms allow brands to gauge consumer demand for niche, art-inspired collectible kits before committing to formal licensing and retail distribution.
