LEGO Pokémon sets launch with Smart Play, no trainer minifigures

The Lego Group and The Pokémon Company announced a new line of LEGO Pokémon building sets for August 2026, all equipped with LEGO Smart Play technology that adds lights and sounds via Smart Tags. Prices range from $15 USD for the Jigglypuff Concert set up to $120 USD for the Charizard vs Jolteon Battle set, which includes two Smart Bricks for each Pokémon. The lineup includes individual sets such as Arcanine ($110), Eevee, Pikachu, Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise, and themed collections like the Mewtwo Laboratory Escape ($70), Eevee & Lapras Treasure Hunt ($60), and the Mew Drone Search ($50). All sets feature Smart Play tags, while only the Charizard vs Jolteon set supplies Smart Bricks.

Design Director Siddharth Muthyala explained that the sets deliberately omit human trainer minifigures. In an interview with Polygon he said, “Research with children showed they most want to feel themselves as Pokémon Trainers, so the design lets them become the trainers directly through the Smart Play system.” The decision aims to let kids role‑play as trainers without a separate minifigure, though Pokémon minifigures are expected in future releases.
