Lehtisaari Alepa identified as world's smallest permanent store

The Alepa grocery store in Lehtisaari, Helsinki, is recognized as the smallest permanent Alepa location, measuring just 94 square meters. Due to its extremely limited space, the store lacks dedicated warehouse facilities, meaning most products must be displayed on the shop floor or on supply racks in the narrow aisles.

The compact layout presents unique challenges for both staff and customers. Employees have reported that the tight quarters can lead to minor injuries, such as bruising from bumping into shelf corners. Customers often find themselves having to 'maneuver' around others in the aisles, as the space is too narrow for two adults to pass each other normally without turning sideways.
