Leica and Formula 1 launch limited-edition Q3 43 camera

Leica Camera and Formula 1 have announced a new licensing partnership, debuting with the Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition. The special-edition camera was unveiled at an event in Los Angeles, presented by Formula 1 presenter Ariana Bravo and 2009 FIA Formula 1 World Champion Jenson Button.

The camera features a motorsport-inspired design, incorporating carbon fiber elements on the wireless charging handgrip, thumb rest, and soft-release button. These components are manufactured and tested in Germany. The body is wrapped in a black microvelour material designed to mimic the texture of a racing steering wheel, while red accents on the controls echo the color-coded buttons used by drivers in a cockpit.

Technically, the edition is based on the Leica Q3 43 platform, featuring an APO-Summicron 43mm f/2 ASPH. lens and a full-frame sensor capable of 60, 36, or 18 megapixel resolutions. A dedicated ‘Formula 1’ digital look, offering higher contrast and richer saturation, is available via the Leica FOTOS app and can be previewed in real time through the viewfinder.

The camera is priced at approximately $9,950, £7,300, or €8,500 and is available through Leica stores and specialist retailers.
