Leica announces Summicron-M 66mm f/2 limited edition lens

Leica has announced the release of the Summicron-M 66mm f/2, a modern reinterpretation of the legendary Elcan 66mm f/2. The original lens was a highly exclusive optic designed in the late 1960s for the US Navy, intended to provide unparalleled resolution in a discreet package. Due to its military origins, very few original units were produced, and they were often accompanied by instructions on how to destroy the equipment if captured.

The new Summicron-M 66mm f/2 features updated internal components to meet contemporary photographic standards while maintaining the unique 66mm focal length. Distinctive design elements include a rotating aperture ring that moves in the opposite direction of standard M-mount lenses and a distance scale arrangement following military-grade specifications.

The lens will be available as a limited edition of only 660 units worldwide, with a retail price of approximately €10,000.
