Leica Camera Gruppe has reported its first revenue decline in several years. For the fiscal year ending in March, the Wetzlar-based manufacturer saw revenues drop by 3.8 percent to 573 million euros.

Despite the decrease in turnover, the company remained profitable. Management attributed the decline to a difficult global economic environment, geopolitical uncertainties, unfavorable exchange rates, and stricter customs regulations. The company also noted weak consumer sentiment in the United States, its most important individual market.

While the photography segment saw a decline in revenue, Leica reported strong growth in its mobile business and stable performance in its sports optics division. CEO Andreas Voll stated that the company will continue to focus on innovative premium products and its global distribution network, while aiming to reach new target groups such as women, younger people, and new creative communities.
