Leicester cardiovascular research hub showcases medical innovations
The British Heart Foundation Leicester Centre of Research Excellence recently held its annual symposium to showcase medical innovations in cardiovascular research. Based at Glenfield Hospital and established by the University of Leicester following multi-million pound funding, the centre focuses on studying the causes of common and rare cardiovascular diseases to improve patient care.
Research highlighted at the event includes the development of a new genetic test using patient DNA to identify individuals at high risk of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms. Led by Professor Matthew Bown, the test aims to facilitate timely interventions and life-saving treatments.
Centre Director Professor André Ng MBE noted that researchers are increasingly working across disciplines, including discovery science, cardiometabolic health, data, and AI, to translate scientific knowledge into improved cardiovascular health.
