Leicester City faces takeover race amid League One struggles

Leicester City is facing a potential change in ownership, with interested bidders given until September 14, 2026, to submit formal offers. The club is reportedly valued at over €230 million, excluding any inherited debt.

A consortium led by businessman Neil Lal is among the groups in discussions regarding a purchase. The potential sale follows a period of significant decline for the club; after winning the Premier League in 2016, Leicester suffered consecutive relegations, dropping into League One for the 2026/27 season.

The current ownership, the Srivaddhanaprabha family, has controlled the club since 2010. The club has struggled at the start of its League One campaign, earning only one point from its first two matches and facing early elimination from the EFL Cup.
