Leicester student on trial for murder after fatal stabbing of fellow student

The murder trial of 18-year-old Harper Dennis began at Leicester Crown Court, following the fatal stabbing of 20-year-old Khaleed Oladipo in February. Oladipo, a third-year cyber security student at De Montfort University, was stabbed five times in the chest while walking near the university campus. One wound penetrated his heart, leading to his death.

Prosecutors allege the attack stemmed from a dispute over a perceived debt of £3,000 and an incident involving a fake Rolex watch that Dennis claimed had caused him embarrassment. The two men were reportedly friends through online gaming and shared a Snapchat group before the falling out.

Dashcam footage from a passing motorist captured the struggle, showing the defendant's arm in a motion consistent with the wounds inflicted. Dennis, a first-year student at the University of Leicester, denies murder and has claimed self-defence. He also faces charges related to possessing an article with a blade and failing to provide a phone PIN.
