Leicestershire Police dogs injure two after escaping handler's home

Two people sustained injuries after an operational police dog and a retired police dog escaped from their handler's garden in Sileby, near Loughborough, on Tuesday, October 20.

The dogs, believed to be German shepherds, approached a woman in the street. A man who stopped his vehicle to assist her was bitten on the ankle by the operational dog, though his work boots limited the injury to minor cuts.

Leicestershire Police have described the event as an isolated incident. The force has apologized to those involved, spoken to the handler regarding the gate, and ordered a formal safety assessment. An investigation into the escape has been launched.
